What is the meaning of the phrase "Rose of Sharon"?

Comment from: MoonSinger [Visitor] Email · http://www.mcsr.olemiss.edu/~mudws/faq/
It's the name of a GREAT Sacred Harp song--#254 with music by William Billings. "Rose" refers to a beautiful woman and "Sharon" is a place in Israel near Mt. Carmel.
See "Rose of Tralee" for another example of a beautiful woman from a particular place in Ireland. Click the URL for more info about Sacred Harp.
